Karen. it doesn't seem to me as a "very reputable and great company" if it does that to their employes! I would better say a very whealthy and powerfull company who fires you if you don't bring in lots of money from unwary tourists. I guess the salesperson (unless they are really good) get worst part of the deal, they get abused from the people they work for and from people that want to get something free from a multimillionaire company. If you are a salesperson and know that your client is a "system abuser" just let him go get his crappy gift from the "great company" and continue with your next victim, I mean client.

I just started working as a sales rep at a very reputable and great company and at least 10 people that I saw one week were out the door the next week. It's kinda scary. Reps do get fired if they don't make sales. It's very painful and scary to see. And yes these people make minimum wage (that includes me too until I get my first sale) and then they take out all prior pay from that check. It can be really tough and demoralising. Most of the people I work with are really nice and hard working but you only have like 8 weeks to have a good average. If you don't sell in like 20 tours then you get put on contract. If you don't sell after that you are out the door. Think of that when you are abusing the system and salesperson and by the way it is not free to have people come to take the tour. Through marketing and advertising it averages out to about 300-400 per person-(gifts included).

Presentation veteran, why don't you pay for your own vacation and stop being such a mooch. Why waste your time and the reps time just to save a few bucks? Give me a break!

I belive the problem (or scam) with timeshares are the maintance fees. They usually are between $500 and $1000. If you multiply $500 per week x 52 weeks a year you get a total annual fee of $26,000 or $2000/month. I don't think this is reasonable, not even for a two or three bedroom condo appraised in a million dollars. Most of the people that have said great things about timeshare here seems to be the ones that sells them. I only known two persons that are "conform" with his timeshare (not full of joy) the rest of them just hate it or already lost it because they haven't been able to maintain their always increasing fees. Not everybody can't take vacations every year at the same week. By the way, they are other fees involved if you want to trade your week. For me, timeshares are for people with money to throw away and likes lots of roomservice, not for the "average joe" who goes into a presentation to get some gifts.
